Withlacoochee Aquatic Restoration
WAR FOCUS
In pursuit of our goal of restoring and preserving this Florida Outstanding Waterway we focus on:
-
Repairing or modifying the dams and spillways to allow restoration of historic peak flows.
-
Minimizing herbicidal weed control in Lake Rousseau and supporting drawdowns to clean the lake bottom and improve fishing habitat.
-
Supporting improved flood control for the Lower Withlacoochee River and nearby Inglis and Yankeetown.
WAR PEOPLE & PARTNERS
W.A.R. is driven by the deep commitment of its members. Some of these individuals go the extra mile by serving on our Board of Directors.

Relationships are critical to W.A.R.’s operations. Many groups work in tandem with us to plan and implement restoration projects. All this work is made possible through grants and the generosity of donors.
WAR TODAY: UPDATE
In June 2024, WAR hosted a public meeting with the US Army Corps of Engineers on the topic of restoring flow to the lower Withlacoochee River.
The towns of Yankeetown and Inglis have forwarded a request to Congresswoman Cammack requesting support for funding of an ACOE engineering study to determine how to best remediate the most important issues. Learn more.
