Withlacoochee Aquatic Restoration

WAR FOCUS

In pursuit of our goal of restoring and preserving this Florida Outstanding Waterway we focus on:

  • Repairing or modifying the dams and spillways to allow restoration of historic peak flows.

  • Minimizing herbicidal weed control in Lake Rousseau and supporting drawdowns to clean the lake bottom and improve fishing habitat.

  • Supporting improved flood control for the Lower Withlacoochee River and nearby Inglis and Yankeetown.

WAR PEOPLE & PARTNERS

W.A.R. is driven by the deep commitment of its members. Some of these individuals go the extra mile by serving on our Board of Directors.

Relationships are critical to W.A.R.’s operations. Many groups work in tandem with us to plan and implement restoration projects. All this work is made possible through grants and the generosity of donors. 

WAR TODAY: FLOW

W.A.R. is pursuing support from local and state government to implement recommendations from an eight-year study of water quality on the Lower Withlacoochee River. Recommendations are similar to older studies performed by SWFWMD dating back to 1989. We must restore the flow.
